Gneuromuscular Dentistry Training at Occlusion Connections
OCCLUSION CONNECTIONS is the only dental educational center that combines the neuromuscular principles with gnathology. The Occlusion Connections training is an 8 Level comprehensive curriculum. It begins with foundational physical, physiologic and biologic laws that govern “normal” function of the human body at all structural levels as they apply to the masticatory apparatus. A key aspect of our training is an understanding of mandibular and TMJ OPTIMIZATION as it relates to body posture and homeostasis of the neuromuscular system. The clinician learns how to identify what a correct cranio-mandibular jaw relationship should look like in an upright position as well as understands how to record that position without manual manipulative techniques. Muscle relaxation technology (low frequency TENS), computerized mandibular scanning as well as electromyography are used and taught to contrast objectively measure voluntary habitual accommodative occlusal responses from involuntary proprioceptive occlusal responses. Refined occlusal management systems and protocols are taught taking everything that our doctors have learned, practiced and experienced in their years of dentistry and dental education to completely new levels never realized in our dental profession before.
This combined approach has given many dentist from around the world the confidence to treat pain patients that they would have previously referred to Dr. Clayton Chan.

Some of the topics covered are:

Bite optimization

Canine guidance (a simple, but crucial concept)

Anterior guidance and mandibular excursive transitions

Fox plane – Key to postural dynamics and occlusal stability

Introduction to advanced occlusal interferences (Understanding the Class IV)

In depth tooth morphology and occlusal anatomy

Proper esthetics and natural proportions

Disc reduction – Proper positioning of disc and condyle when taking an Optimized bite recording

Sapphire bite management – A key that technicians like

Hard and soft tissue landmarks to look for in bite taking (especiallywhen taking an Optimized TENS Bite)

Different orthotic designs – 1. Cervical neck dysfunctions, 2. TMJ primary, 3. Class 2 Division 2, and 4. Anterior open bites

Our doctor/students are some of the most talented, dedicated, and experienced dentists in the field of academia and dental practice who are not only teachers and leaders in their field of expertise, but are those who appreciate advanced hands on training with clinical experience. They see value and the need to expand their horizons and learn the concepts that Dr. Chan presents and teaches expertly. It is with this training and hands on experience that ensures our dentists to be better prepared to take their newly acquired knowledge and skills to the next level and implement them into their own practices.
As a leader in education, Occlusion Connections (OC) is dedicated to integrating the latest in bio-technology and instrumentation into each course. Our neuromuscular dentists not only master the most advanced techniques practiced today, but in turn offer these advances to their TMJ/TMD paining patients, cosmetic restorative patients and orthodontic patients.
Occlusion Connections teaches dentists to be diagnostically preventative in their approach to dental care in a logical systematic manner. The Occlusion Connections practitioner is trained to treat their patient’s condition from a physiologic perspective, beyond the standard “Neuromuscular” approaches. Therefore, the OC dentist uses the diagnostic skills and understanding to effectively implement advanced technology to offer comprehensive care. Diagnostic computerization is used by many OC dentists’ offices to provide conservative yet advanced dentistry.
OC practitioners are trained to be conservative and detailed in the care they deliver to their patients, always striving to provide treatment that posturally aligns the head, neck, temporomandibular joints and masticatory system to the rest of the body in a balanced way. It is these “gneuromuscular” and orthopedic principles that qualifies our dentist to comprehensively diagnose and treat the degenerative TMJ, masticatory dysfunction and pain problems by stabilizing natures tooth and muscles structure using either advanced orthodontic/orthopedic techniques and or advanced cosmetic restorative techniques to preserve your teeth. Based on bio physiologic science the deficient or mal aligned bite is “stabilized” prior to any complex level of rehabilitation treatment. To Occlusion Connections dentists, their dental care goes beyond delivering care that is appropriate and in the patient’s best interest, but more importantly providing care that is logical, reasonable and makes physiologic sense to their patients.
