Arch Expansion to Create Tooth Space of a Psuedo Class III Jaw Relationship

by Clayton A. Chan, D.D.S.

I am adding a series of pictures of a recent case I did involving upper arch crowding (blocked out upper left canine tooth with lingual version lateral incisor).  Male patient presented with a psuedo Class III prognathic bite.  From my diagnosis and objective assessment using TENS  and my K7 kineseograph I recognized that this patient required the upper arch to be expanded and developed only.  Previous orthodontic evaluations recommended upper left lateral removal.   From my evaluation I decided that no tooth removal would be required and no lower jaw resection surgery would be indicated.  Previous specialists were planning to do orthognathic corrective surgery to correct the malocclusion.  I recommended to the patient for his obstructed upper airway to be evaluated and treated by the otolaryngologist for septoplasty treatment which the patient did.  Patient reported that it was a simple treatment and he recovered well with no incidence within 4 days.
