What the Mastership Is
OC Master is a distinguishing award granted to those elite clinicians who have advanced their training by completing OC’s Level 1–9 training curriculum in craniomandibular diagnosis, management, and the related advanced methodologies and scientific protocols in the treatment of craniomandibular and musculoskeletal disorders implementing gneuromuscular (GNM) principles — from Phase I to Phase II treatment. The qualifying case may be a comprehensive restorative or an orthodontic Phase II level of treatment — either path meets the requirement for this award.
The Mastership recognizes doctors who have disciplined themselves by advancing their understanding, skills, and competency in comprehensive dentistry — and in scientific, objective data recording and interpretive skills, implementing restorative/prosthetic techniques. It marks a Mastership in Craniomandibular Dentistry among one’s peers, with eligibility to display the OC Master logo and the designation “OCM”.

First, the Fellowship
To attain Mastership, all candidates must first attain OC Fellowship in this elite association. The pathway has an order — and no shortcuts.

Mastership Requirements · 1 — Competency Verification
The Written Examination — Sections V–IX
A written examination comprising 60–70 multiple-choice questions of the assimilated information from the OC Level 1–9 course curriculum — with emphasis of testing from the Level 5–9 curriculum — in five sections.
Advanced GNM Bite Refinement / K7x Scan Interpretation
Section V Examination
Validates comprehension of mandibular postural optimization, mandibular trajectory protocols, and K7 instrumentation management — with key foundational knowledge of electromyography (EMG), computerized mandibular scanning (CMS — jaw tracking), and electrosonography (ESG) diagnostic and treatment scans, including the ability to administer K7 and low-frequency J5 Dental TENS optimization protocols.
Advanced GNM Bite Management & Transfer
Section VI Examination
Validates comprehension and understanding of Phase I orthotic and Phase II restorative bite transfer protocols and principles.
Advanced GNM Micro Occlusion / Coronoplasty I
Section VII Examination
Validates comprehension and understanding of gnathologic and neuromuscular occlusal and TMD management protocols.
Advanced GNM Scan Interpretation
Section VIII Examination
Validates comprehension and scan-interpretation understanding of computerized mandibular scanning (CMS — jaw tracking), electromyography (EMG), and electrosonography (ESG).
K7 ESG Joint Sound Recording
Section IX Examination
Validates comprehension of fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis, and the understanding and interpretation of electrosonographic (ESG) joint signature patterns to identify various TM joint conditions and pathologies.

Clinical Proficiency — One Case, Carried to Completion
The Fellowship proved four cases stabilized. The Mastership asks for something harder: one completed case demonstrating clinical skills, knowledge, and ability in managing a craniomandibular compromised condition from Phase I stabilization all the way through Phase II finishing treatment — fully documented per OC’s Case Documentation Format for Mastership.
The Case
Of an advanced nature — Phase I orthotic stabilization carried into Phase II full-mouth restorative/prosthetic and/or orthodontic treatment — displaying proficiency in completing a particular mode of comprehensive restorative or orthodontic Phase II level of treatment
The Condition
In the diagnosis of the four categories of neuromuscular challenges recognized by OC’s training program — documented treatment of one or more of: cervical dysfunction, TMJ primary, Class II Division 2, anterior open bite, or a combination
The Standard
Advanced treatment-planning knowledge and understanding displayed in the case, demonstrating the doctor’s effectiveness — how well the case was handled from Phase I stabilization to Phase II completion, using objective monitoring systems, photos, and monitoring forms as proof
Treatment effectiveness and stability are assessed across five areas:

Objective Myotronics K7x scan data will be used to prove and quantify the quality of Phase II treatment stability.
Not an opinion of success — a measurement of it.
Case Documentation — What the Case Includes
OC’s Regulatory Review Board has established the documentation protocol and created the OC Case Documentation Forms for the OC Master Award. The submitted case includes:
- ◆A completed OC Case Documentation Form, providing all necessary information per the OC case presentation format
- ◆Pre-operative and post-operative lateral cephalograms, plain-film tomography, or CBCT/iCAT joint imaging — in MIP and at maximum opening, before and after treatment, with supporting K7 records
- ◆K7 scans across the full arc of care — computerized mandibular scans (jaw tracking), electromyography (EMG), and electrosonography (ESG), taken pre-operative, mid-treatment, and post-treatment to detail the physiologic resting and functional status of the case
- ◆Copies of pre-operative evaluation and planning forms, lab work authorizations, treatment consents, the patient’s subjective summary log, and pre-existing musculoskeletal occlusal signs and symptoms
- ◆Pre- and post-operative intra-oral and extra-oral photographs, photographs of model casts before and after bite registration, and supporting photographs of the orthotic intra-orally — at initial delivery and after stabilization
- ◆All records submitted digitally, in PowerPoint or equivalent format
Beyond the Exam and the Case

Continuing Education
Documentation of at least one hundred twelve (112) continuing TMD education hours in the preceding five years — nearly double the Fellowship requirement.

A Letter of Recommendation
From a current OC Master, OC Diplomate, or a member of OC’s Advanced Credentials Committee.

Curriculum Vitae
A current CV, submitted with the application.

Written Application — First
All OC Master candidates submit a written application to document interest in the Mastership credentialing process. Applications and documentation should arrive at least six to eight weeks prior to the OC Summit at which the credentials are to be presented.

Conferred in Person, at the OC Summit
A Mastership plaque and key have been designed for those candidates who earn it, presented before their peers — the doctors already named among OC’s award recipients.
Masterships are not conferred in absentia.

OC recognition is public and verifiable — the names, dates, and investiture photographs of every award recipient are on record.

The Examination
Written. Offered by special arrangement prior to the bi-annual OC Summits. Testing takes about 1–1.5 hours. Examination dates are arranged by contacting Jane.

Timing
All applications and documentation should arrive at least six to eight weeks prior to the OC Summit at which you wish your credentials to be presented.
Delivery
Send your records digitally — on a digital disc or USB — via Fed-Ex, DHL, Express Mail, UPS, or a similar carrier, to expedite delivery and guarantee the safety of the records. The sender should retain the receipt.
Presentation
Your Mastership credentials are presented to you at the OC Summit meeting.
The Second Honor Awaits Its Candidates
Maintaining the Mastership: all OC Masters remain members in good standing and attend at least one OC-sponsored or co-sponsored meeting every three years.

Mastership status: Ongoing Mastership involves ongoing monitoring of the dentist’s proficiency by OC’s Credentialing Review Board, including current DEA/state licensing registration and credentials. Issues such as malpractice claims history, criminal convictions, misconduct allegations or investigations, and substance abuse are a basis to lose Mastership status. The credentialing process is not a guarantee of any level of quality or service received from participating OC dentists, who are independent practitioners and neither agents nor employees of Occlusion Connections.
