Functional Chew Cycles – Scan 8

Kineseographic (jaw tracking) chew cycle patterns (Scan 8 using the K7) are displayed below.  Sagittal, frontal and horizontal (anterior-posterior) mandibular functional movement patterns are recorded before occlusal treatment and after occlusal orthotic adjustment refinement to show the quality of the terminal contact position occurs when the teeth come into immediate contact during opening and closing movements.
Left and right lateral movements are also recorded.  Aberrant occlusal interferences are shown in the left window.  A clean more detailed occlusal pattern (free of interferences) are shown in the right window.  This is objective validation of good chewing definition, free of proprioceptive occlusal interferences.

Norms for Terminal contact:

  • Frontal interferences – Good chew definition within 0.2 mm
  • Lateral interferences – Good chew definition within 0.2 mm
