This course will help you grasp ESG and what it all means in a detailed manner. It provides a solid clinical understanding, application, interpretation skills and use of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis on jaw joint sound patterns, frequency ranges, amplitude peak patterns and sound location — in order to arrive at an accurate TM joint diagnosis.

The Four Things Scan 15 Tells You

When looking at an ESG Scan 15, every K7 dentist should know how to use it, analyze it, and interpret the joint sound patterns in order to identify the correct TM joint condition based on objective measurement:

Reading the Acoustic Signature

Location of sound — early, mid or late opening; early, mid or late closing
Frequency ranges — high or low frequency peak sounds
Amplitude — high or low sounds
Peak patterns — single or multiple peaks, returning to baseline or not

As a K7 clinician it is imperative to know how to use the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) tool — an important and critical part of the K7 ESG package.

Course Objectives

Understand the six stages of clinical conditions of the temporomandibular joint when interpreting ESG joint vibration recorded sound patterns — key when a patient demonstrates signs and symptoms that overlap the symptom-free stage, the early stages, the intermittent stage and the late stages of internal derangement.
Correctly interpret the acoustic signatures from K7 ESG recordings based on knowing the clinical thresholds related to amplitude and frequency ranges, to prevent misdiagnosis of sound.
Apply the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to analyze ESG joint vibration sounds by examining the joint signature patterns displayed during an opening and closing cycle, rather than analyzing isolated sound patterns.
Differentiate clinical and observable features as they relate to the muscles and occlusal signature patterns when analyzing ESG frequency relationships of joint pathology.
Interpret multiple peak frequencies and the meaning of “returning to baseline” as joint sounds relate to frequency range, peak patterns, joint conditions and location of sound when using the FFT feature — a missing key when mastering K7 ESG joint vibration recording.
Analyze joint sounds using FFT and the filtering tool in order to arrive at a proper diagnosis, with clinical examples throughout.
