When the clinical experts presented in front of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Public Health Services and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (Dental Products Panel Meeting in August 1988) they only asked whether the validity of Measuring devices have “scientific and clinical validity”.

These are the criteria for scientific and clinical validity:

  1. Can one measure a physiologic function?
  2. Are we measuring that function accurately?
  3. Does the data add to the diagnostic and treatment protocol?

These are the criteria that satisfies the scrutiny of these over-seeing entities. It is not about papers and so called published literature in journals etc…most of which is biased opinions and they know that. That is why we GNM clinicians measure and realize scientific investigation and inquiry to each of our TMD cases is critical. We follow scientific methodology. Question: Does our dental profession (dentist) follow scientific protocols or do they just follow along based on someone’s opinions and referencing of so called published papers? – Clayton A. Chan, D.D.S. – Las Vegas, NV

P.S.:

This also relates to all those who previously were anti-instrumentation in previous years. They asked us where is your science to prove neuromuscular occlusion was scientific. When we showed them the science they would say your evidence is anecdotal. Now where is their science to validate that their occlusal and TMD philosophy is objectively measured and physiologically healthy?

Define Science: “Science is the systematic study of the structures and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories against the evidence obtained.”

The systematic study and analysis of structures (teeth and muscles) and how the condyle/disc relationships behave and function using electrosonography ( Scan 15) and all the informative data that is recorded using computerized mandibular scanning (jaw tracking – Scan 2, 3 6, 8, 4/5 and 13) and electromyography (EMG – Scan 9, 19, 11 and 12) are allowing us all to see the functioning and resting modes of the physical conditions of our patients through observations, experimentation and testing of the GNM OC protocols and teachings against each patient’s physical evidence obtained.  This is how we can scientifically arrive at an objectively measured and documented/evidence based diagnosis.

This is what I believe OC GNM teachings and protocols we advocate are based on…the Science!
