Beyond Low EMG: What You’ve Been Missing

Standard neuromuscular training fixates on one goal: lower the EMGs. But optimal occlusion is far more complex than a single metric. Dr. Chan’s curriculum goes beyond low-EMG patterns to reveal the full clinical picture hidden inside your K7 data. You will learn to read and interpret:

  • CMS (Computerized Mandibular Scanning) — trajectory deviations, arc-of-closure anomalies, and what mandibular movement patterns reveal about structural and muscular health
  • EMG patterns — not just high vs. low, but the quality of muscle balance, coordination, and what true physiologic rest actually looks like
  • ESG (Electro-Sonography) — joint sound analysis in clinical context, including advanced FFT interpretation for TM joint diagnosis

  • Foundational interpretation — patient profiles, good data vs. scrambled data, correct physiologic EMG norms, correct Jankelson Duotrode and Myotrode placement protocols
  • Advanced diagnostic patterns — physiologic rest jaw track, guarded occlusion, relaxed EMG scans, crossover patterns, reverse pulse, deficient overjet/overbite tracings
  • Clinical problem-solving protocols — resolving hyper anterior temporalis and hyper cervical group EMG problems, finding the right bite in Class II Div. 2 and anterior open bite cases
  • Scan-by-scan mastery — systematic interpretation of every K7 scan: Scans 2, 3, 4/5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 19, proper vs. improper interpretation of each

Level 8 covers every K7 scan — Scans 2 through 19 — because every scan means something diagnostically. No other training program in the world covers this breadth with this level of clinical specificity.

When the EMGs rise after 45–60 minutes of Dental TENS, most K7 clinicians do not know what it means — and many simply look away. The OC-trained dentist reads Scan 9 against Scan 10 and knows exactly what the muscles are reporting. Interpreted correctly, these 8-channel EMGs give clear direction on precisely what to address occlusally to bring the readings back to normal — the cervical group included. There is no need to avoid the cervical group EMGs; these are very important diagnostic findings, indicating what the dentist needs to do occlusally.

The K7 clinician must know what the upward and downward pulse patterns mean, since these patterns objectively document the condition of the patient’s mandibular position as well as the cervical muscle status. It is these tracing details that affect the clinical decision-making on how best to take and record an optimized bite registration. With this awareness, follow-up visits can be reduced and treatment time shortened.

Without knowing how to interpret joint vibration sound patterns on K7 Scan 15 ESG, a clinician never realizes that joint derangement sound patterns can be resolved and normalized. Most clinicians today ignore joint sounds altogether, and do not believe a dentist can normalize degenerative joint disease.
