OC DIPLOMATE
OC Diplomate is the highest award granted to those elite clinicians who have advanced their training by completing all of OC’s training curriculum including the orthodontic/orthopedic curriculum which covers dentofacial orthopedics, mechanics and orthopedic-orthodontic strategies in the management and treatment of comprehensive orthopedic dentistry. The OC Credentialing Board recognizes these doctor for their advanced studies, dedicated discipline and efforts in perfecting their understanding, skills and abilities in comprehensive orthopedic dentistry. These doctors have successfully completed a comprehensive written examination along with proven case studies displaying their comprehensive proficiency, understanding and skills in all three disciplines of TMD, restorative reconstruciton and orthodontic/orthopedics. The OC Diplomate Program grants doctors to have a Diplomate of Comprehensive Orthopedic Dentistry an elite achievement award allowing them the eligibility to display the OC Diplomate logo and designation “OCDipl.”.
A Diplomate plaque and key have been designed for those candidates for Fellowship to be presented at the bi-annual OC Summit. Fellowships are not conferred in abstentia.
Diplomat Requirements:
- Competency Verification: A written examination comprising of 40-50 multiple choice questions of the assimilated information from all of OC’s training with emphasis on Ortho 1, 2 and 3 course curriculum.
- Fundamentals of Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedics – Section IX examination – validating dentist’s comprehension and understanding of the concepts of dental orthopedic growth and development as well as the orthodontic tools and records.
- Initiation of Orthopedic and Orthodontic Treatment – Section X examination – validating dentist’s comprehension, understanding and clinical skills of diagnosis, treatment planning and effective management of the neuromuscular orthodontic/orthopedic case.
- Orthodontic and Orthopedic Mechanics I – Section XI examination – validating dentist’s comprehension and implementing orthodontic/orthopedic mechanics.
- Determining whether optimal knowledge and skills have been acquired to apply the GNM protocols and principles to a high standard of proficiency in the clinical environment.
- Clinical Proficiency Verification: Three (3) completed craniomandibular compromised cases demonstrating phase I to phase II diagnostic and treatment OC methodologies implementing restorative and orthodontic/orthopedic principles in verticalization and GNM occlusal management concepts. All cases must demonstrating successful comprehensive effective treatment following full documentation following OC’s Case Documentation Format for Diplomate status.
- One (1) case should be within twenty-four (24) months old showing diversity in TMD selection or ancillary procedures, restorative design and\or materials demonstrating both Phase I and Phase II finishing.
- One (1) documented case should display proficiency in completing a comprehensive phase II orthodontic/orthopedic treatment whether completing the ortho phase with restorative and or natural dentition procedures.
- One (1) documented case should display proficiency in phase II verticalization orthopedic mechanics. Finalizing the dentition when indicated with restorative is acceptable.
- Each case should demonstrate proficiency and effectiveness in the diagnosis, treatment planning, bite management and transitioning phases of a phase I to phase II orthodontics and or comprehensive restorative cases that has been diagnosed with one or a combination of the 4 categories of neuromuscular challenges recognized by OC’s training program.
- The diplomate candidate must demonstrate effectiveness of how well each case was handled from Phase I stabilization to Phase II I completion showing proof using objective monitoring systems, photos and protocols to assess the treatment effectiveness stability of following areas: 1) masticatory muscles stability, 2) occlusal stability, 3) TM joint stability, 4) Central Nervous System (CNS) stability and 5) other orofacial areas.
- Provide documentation of at least (160) continuing education hours of TMD, restorative, orthodontics in the preceding five (5) years.
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a current OC Mastership or OC Diplomate or member of OC’s Advanced Credentials Committee.
- Submit a current Curriculum Vitae.
Case Documentation: What is required?
OC’s Regulatory Review Board has established the following protocol for documentation and created OC Case Documentation forms for the Mastership Award.
- All Diplomate candidates must submit written application to document interest in the Diplomate credentialing process.
- All submitted cases must be recent within a thirty-six (36) month period.
- All Diplomate Candidates will provide three (3) fully documented cases showing supportive evidence validating clinical proficiency and treatment effectiveness for Diplomate status.

- A completed ”OC Case Documentation form”*, providing all of the necessary information of each case submitted as per OC case presentation format.**
- Each case submitted for the Diplomate candidate should involve both phase I orthotic stabilization and phase II comprehensive orthodontic/orthopedics and or a demonstration of restorative finishing techniques.
- Each documented case should demonstrate proficiency in completing a craniomandibular phase I stabilized case with some form of orthodontics using fixed or removable appliances.
- Each case should be of an advanced nature involving treatment of one or more of the following categories: 1) Cervical dysfunction, 2) TMJ primary, Class II division 2 and or Anterior open bite.
- Provide complete documentation including copies of pre-operative and post-operative lateral cephalograms, plain film tomography or CBCT/ICAT joint imaging in MIP and maximum opening.
- Additional documentation should include copies of pre-operative evaluation and planning forms, lab work authorization forms, and/or treatment consent forms, patient subjective summary log, pre- existing musculoskeletal occlusal signs and symptoms. K7 computerized mandibular scans (jaw tracking), Electromyography (EMG) and Electrosonography (ESG) scans pre operative, mid treatment and post treatment scans should also be used to detail the physiologic resting and functional status of each case.
- Provide copies of pre operative and post operative, intra oral and extra oral photographs of model casts before and after bite registration, supporting photos of orthotic intra orally at initial delivery and after stabilization per OC’s Case Documentation Format.
- All records must be submitted digitally in CD Power Point or equivalent format.
Diplomat Maintenance Requirements:
- All OC Diplomats must maintain their membership in good standing and must attend at least one OC Summit or co-sponsored meeting every three (3) years.

All applications and documentation should arrive at least six to eight weeks prior to the OC Summit at which you wish your credentials to be presented. Please also send via Fed-Ex, DHL, Airborne Express, Express Mail, UPS, or similar carrier in order to expedite delivery and guarantee the safety of the records. The sender should retain receipt of same.
Examination:
The exam is offered by special arrangements prior to Bi-Annual OC Summits. Testing will take about 1-1.5 hours long.
Diplomat Status Maintenance:
- Issues as malpractice claims history, criminal convictions, sexual misconduct allegations/investigations, child abuse allegations/investigations and substance abuse are a bases to lose Diplomate Status.
- Ongoing Fellowship status: involves ongoing monitoring of dentist’s proficiency. Credentialing sanctions by OC’s Credentialing Review Board includes updating DEA/state licensing registration and credentials.
