About Patient Education
Today’s consumer/ patient needs to be informed and made aware of the various signs and symptoms that arise when teeth become worn, muscles become tender and jaw joints are mal positioned. Understanding what treatment options are available as well as what occlusal philosophy your doctor is approaching your case is critical to your treatment outcome. If you are in need of TMJ pain care, cosmetic dentistry, full arch restorative dentistry and/or orthodontic care you need to read and learn about what your dentist believes as well as how your dentist will approach your case.
We desire that you (the public) will be well informed of various treatment philosophies that dentists embrace to diagnose and treat their patients. All dentist have been trained and educated based on various beliefs, paradigms and understandings by their teachers, professors and mentors. It is these teachings that will impact your treatment whether you are aware of it or not. There are some dentist that strongly believe that your bite is important, while other dentist do not believe the bite has anything to do with your symptoms.
Whether you recognize that TMD (temporomandibular joint dysfunction) may be caused by airway breathing problems, trauma, bad bite (dental treatment), developmental abnormalities and or stresses, it is important for you to talk with your dentist and find out more information before a particular mode of therapy is rendered.
